Welcome to Hearth & Hide: Why We Started

There's a section in our kitchen that gets a lot of use. It's the same five square feet of counter that's held the same cast iron skillet for the better part of a decade. It's been seasoned by a thousand breakfasts. It gets better every time we use it.
The other side of that kitchen, by the way, is where Gus — a 12-year-old golden retriever with a bad hip and very specific opinions about pillow placement — has been sleeping on the same dog bed for three years. We've replaced the cover once. The foam is still good. The bed is now part of the room.
We started Hearth & Hide because we got tired of replacing things. The throw blanket that pilled in a month. The cutting board that split after six months. The pet bowl that tipped over so many times we just gave up and bought a new one. None of it was built to last. None of it was built to be kept.
A different kind of catalog
When we sat down to design our first product catalog, we asked one question: what would we keep for ten years?
That question took most of our answers off the table. We dropped the cheap cutting board in favor of a 1.5-inch bamboo board, hand-finished, that should outlive us. We dropped the polyester throw for a stonewashed linen blanket that gets softer with every wash. We dropped the foam pet bed for a CertiPUR-US certified memory foam orthopedic — the kind we'd buy for our own senior dogs.
The catalog is small. We don't have 4,000 SKUs. We have 25, and we know each one.
What you'll find here
