Stoneware Coffee Mug Set of 2 — 14oz, Reactive Glaze

Two 14oz stoneware mugs in a reactive matte glaze — the same glaze on our dinnerware line, so the mugs will sit next to the plates without looking like they came from different stores. The handle is large enough to fit four fingers, which is the difference between a mug you can hold with a full cup of coffee and a mug you have to pinch between thumb and forefinger. The 14oz capacity is honest — most "12oz" mugs actually hold 10oz to the rim.

The shape is round and slightly squat, which keeps the coffee warm longer than a tall, narrow mug. The base is unglazed on the bottom, which is a small detail most people won't notice but which makes the mug sit quietly on a table without sliding. Each pair has slight glaze variation — no two pairs are identical, and we think that's the point of buying stoneware.

The story The first mug we made for this line was 10oz. It was the wrong size. Nobody wants a 10oz mug of coffee in the morning — that's a sample. The 14oz is the size of a real cup of coffee, the kind you pour and then sit with for twenty minutes before you've finished it. That's a mug worth making.
